My opening word was a big help today, obviously. But I still had to wrench for awhile. Belatedly, I learned from WordleBot there were 23 possible words after my first try. Glad I didn’t think of any of them first – including ALERT! Sometimes starting before enough coffee is an assist.

Another ‘alert avert’ here. This one was as fast as yesterday’s, and equally unimpressive as a score (oh, well).

But it offered the True Wordle Pleasure of looking at the possibilities and eliminating them.

You are soooooooo lucky!!

It would have been totally natural to figure that the vowels were probably in the second and fourth slots (just TA_ER alone yields TASER, TAPER, TAMER, TAKER, and even TATER) and to try one of those first. Good thing you weren’t fully awake yet!

I know, right? It looks awful. But no one is more surprised than me when those letters all turn over on a second try.

I did play with _TEAR and _AE_R, but that got me nowhere. I would have gotten around to splitting the A and E as you did, but just wanted to try the A_ERT combination first. No idea why AVERT popped into my head before ALERT. I guess I wasn’t very… alert yet.

I could only see two words…agent and avert. Since there was a G yesterday, I went with the V - though that strategy doesn’t always pay off, but it did today. And the penultimate guess word for the day was Alert…6 people went with that, understandably so. :wink: I luckily eliminated the L in my second word, else I’d have gone with it too.

I also went with a new start word I haven’t used before just for something new and different, and I thought it was good for checking 3 vowels, though it doesn’t have the “common consonants”, but not every word has those of course. It didn’t really help today, but I like the word.

Well now that was tough. No idea why I saw braze before brave, but even ignoring that I was still late to even see the trap: after 2 I saw weary then yearn and went with the first thing I saw. Really should have kept looking until I noticed _ra_e. Then ideally I would have abandoned hard mode to ensure a 4. C’est la vie, I’ll take the 6, fair play.

Kind of you to say and thank you, but 2s are always down to a lot of luck, I think. I’ve never gotten a 1. But so long as IRATE isn’t on the used word list, hope springs eternal!

Looks like I’m not the only one who struggled with this one. I didn’t help myself when I went off my usual sequence on the second guess, but I don’t know if it would have made a difference.

This also ends a streak of sorts for me: this is the first time I’ve gotten worse than a 4 since getting a 5 on #481, five and a half weeks ago.

I’m the same way about a 1. I’m sure SLANT will be a solution someday, though that may be years away for all I know. The question I ask myself is: when that happens, will I change my starting word (in the hopes of getting another 1 someday, obviously!) or will I stay with the one I’ve got? Probably the latter.
