Guess 2, GUILE, was lucky in that it gave me the G (I was just trying to nail down the vowels given that both A and O had been eliminated). Then with “_ U _ _ E” to work with I didn’t yet know that it would be a “_UDGE” word–but I did want to make one of them my next guess. Of BUDGE, FUDGE, JUDGE, NUDGE, and possibly PUDGE, JUDGE seemed the most Wordle-ish. (Luck again, really.)
Yeah, I could see that situation becoming an irritant for a lot of ‘middle of the day’ times.
In all likelihood, those in charge aren’t inclined to make any change; too much chance of igniting too much emotion. (Interesting topic, anyway.)

Why is it accepting these words? None of the last three, including the answer are real words. They are all just shortened slang. The only thing I didn’t try was CONGO. Pretty pattern, though. Like descending a flight of stairs to run right into a brick wall.

I’m gonna say this one was legit: the solution is a shorthand of course, but who uses ‘condominium’ outside of a legal document? ‘Condo’ has long since become a word in its own right. I give you Al Yankovic from the 1980s. It’s also in my 1982-vintage American Heritage dictionary with a line of its own.
After 2 guesses, with C as the first letter and an N and O, I could only come up with CONDO, CONGO (proper noun), CONVO (shorthand for ‘convocation,’ but far less in common usage than CONDO), and CONIC which has already been used. So CONDO it was. Looks like having the N saved me a lot of trouble!
