Saw manly first but kept looking and decided madly was more wordle-ish. Not going with the first thing I saw has now cost me a guess two days in a row.

Was a toss-up between the P and M and just picked the wrong one…darn it. Could have been two other words too from what I could see (allay* and cloak), so at least I chose correctly with the OLAR.
*At first, I actually considered allay as there has only been one letter Y all month…Tracy seems to have forgotten its existence. But I felt it was too much of a risk to play a word with two double letters, so I waited on it. Good thing.

My gut paid off for a change! I was looking at _A_AL words (NATAL, CANAL, BASAL, etc.), when something inside me called out “Y!”
I’m not keeping track like @SeaSun; it just felt like time for a Y word. There were still several options, so I’ll take a bit of luck for this three.

HEART just one letter damn
CLOAK just two in the wrong places
NAILS that’s better, now thinking of myself I get…
MANLY
Actually, I think I’ve taken all the fun out of the game. At least for the NYT games.
I do the same first word. I guess it’s the same reason I always do the queen opening in chess. I know how it flows from there.
I found that I was spending a lot of time coming up with second words with the same first word and answer. So, I chose a second word for each result and based on practice games tweaked the second word based on lessons learned. When over half the people lost on PARER, I had four greens on the second word.
I did some analysis and with those second words I just need to pick a word that works and will get three or less over 45 percent of the time.
Basically, my game is usually just playing the third word. The game is often "what third word would give me the best chance to get the answer in four words.

MANLY - I think LANKY is the only other possible word.
I just finished today’s Duotrigordle and I managed to do something I haven’t done before.
I have the display set up so it shows the thirty-two words in four rows of eight words. I usually skip from row to row as I solve the words. But today I was able to complete each row of eight before moving down to the next row.

MOLAR → Good start. Try the A as the first syllable, then L is 4th or 5th… if I try an E ending, it would have MA?LE, so maybe
MAPLE → So perhaps an -LY ending, could be MADLY or
MANLY
Not a bad one to end the year on.
Can you elaborate on this? There are 3^5 = 243 possible results from one’s first word (green/yellow/grey for each letter). I figure you must reduce that number a bit somehow. Do you treat greens and yellows the same? That would knock it down from 243 to 32. Or have you just considered the possibilities you’ve actually encountered so far?
I use the same second word almost all the time that I get two or fewer hits (green or yellow) from my first word (with 3 or more I customize), but I’ve been realizing that sometimes it’s just not the best fit. So the idea of thinking through my choices of second word ahead of time has some appeal, just trying to keep it from being more work than it’s worth.

This is my second FAIL since I started playing the game. And it appears I’m the only one who struggled with this one. ![]()
Go figure…here’s the “obsolete” Y finally, which I at least started with, but got stuck in a stupid trap. I couldn’t come up with a good sleuth word as I had way too many choices. I had little time to play the game before midnight too, so was doing it all in a hurry…so that’s my fault.
Also, I really didn’t think she’d go with the word MANLY, not to mention we just had a word starting with the letter M, so I just put it last on my list. Was not fun.
My 300th game is in a few days, and I haven’t really been too pleased with the new editor, so I might just call it good after that, but we’ll see.
(didn’t have a great day to begin with, so I’m a little on the cranky side…hoping for a better day tomorrow)
