Based on the number of possible answers there are less than 243 for each word. For example, for SHARK you could have the first 4 green if the word was SHARE or SHARD. But, for WHALE there isn’t another word that starts with WHAL.
For each possible result I came up with a second word (close to 150 of them) for each of them. I do have a second word I use for many situations (like today). But, I did tweak them based on lessons learned.

I agree with the first paragraph. I was surprised the answer was not MADLY. (Or BADLY, but it looks like that was already an answer.) Obviously with the N you didn’t have to worry about those.
For the second paragraph, man that sucks. I can sympathize as my first fail was my 199th game. That was disheartening. (Still so far my only fail, knock on wood.)

I had a reaction similar to that of others: ‘manly’ seems unlikely. (What’s next: GIRLY?) But I ran through the entire not-yet-eliminated letters for the _A_LY pattern given by guess 2, and the only other possibilities I found were SALLY (as in ‘forth’) and HAPLY. And MANLY seemed marginally more likely than those.
