SLANT => had six or seven decent possibilities after this
BATON => knocked it down to
ANTIC

ANTIC was the first possibility that came to mind after my first word narrowed things down a bit, but there were several possibilities, and ANTIC wasn’t going to narrow things down much further if it wasn’t the solution, so I went with BATON which did the job. (It had already been used; I forgot to check, but it didn’t matter.)

A day for threes, I see. Took me forever to get the right word, though.

SKIRT → Good start. Can’t think of a word with N, L and a vowel to try, so two out of three ain’t bad…
PINTO → And a hit on the N. But now I think of the right word for the second guess…
INTEL → Which really should have been my second guess, and it leads right to…
ANTIC

So I missed what should have been a gimme 3. I need to start thinking of words that start with vowels more often.

NATTY
ANTIC

“Natty” was a bit of a risk as it’s a colloquialism, but then they’ve allowed several such in the past. It did narrow things down sufficiently to make ANTIC seem like a good third guess.

After my usual ‘slant’ opening, I considered ‘natty,’ but rejected it more on the grounds that as a colloquialism, it was more in vogue 50-60 years ago than now. But there were some words I rejected simply because they were slang, natch.

ATTIC
ANTIC

Another irksome one. I was left with two choices, Attic and Antic. Antic was my first choice, but then I thought it usually is used in the plural, so I looked it up to see how common it is used singularly, and it is in fact usually used in the plural, plus there is another meaning which is archaic for grotesque or bizarre. So with that, I went with Attic.

This is my 300th game, and I think I’m done. Or I might just take a break…we’ll see.
