Came up with Bevel for a good sleuth word for this mini trap to avoid getting a possible 6. Could have gotten it in 4 though, as I was going to just take a chance on Revel. Oh well.

FYI,
There is a way to peek at future words. It is maybe a month or so in the future. (I won’t tell how). There are a couple of words coming up that are not on the original list. So, they are adding new words that aren’t on the list of 2,315 (or whatever the number is) of possible words.

Same for me.
My normal starting word of IRATE left only one word, according to Wordlebot. It took me awhile moving the two out of place vowels around but I finally got it. Only my 14th 2.

I call foul. E-mail comes with a hyphen. Will tomorrow’s word be TBALL or GSPOT?
Anyhow, I’ve usually checked E by five, but hitting A and I seemingly rendered that unnecessary, and I fell into a mini-trap. Thought I was down to a coin-flip, but this one was the edge of the coin.

Made a hash of this, first by dismissing the solution when I first noticed it when I was looking at the possibilities early on, then blundering on my fourth guess by guessing a word that I’d eliminated as a possibility. So I earned this stinkin’ 5 all the way. Grrr. Argh.
I disagree, despite having dismissed it as a possible answer on first glance. It almost never has a hyphen anymore, and it’s pretty well embedded in the language as a word and in its non-hyphenated form. I realized my ‘not a word’ initial reaction was about being older and having a somewhat out-of-date sense of what is and isn’t a legitimate word.
Nevertheless, e-mail is a contraction of “electronic mail.” If the popular term had instead become, say, “computer mail.” Nobody would be arguing that CMAIL should be a valid Wordle solution. Had “electronic” not happened to begin with a vowel, it wouldn’t even be a debate.
Wheelz, you make a good point about C-MAIL likely being ALWAYS hyphenated if ‘computer mail’ had been the term widely adopted.’

Guess 3 gave my brain a bit of a hint, making the solution more obvious (of course 4 letters having been found had something to do with it, too).
