CRANE
SPOIL - eliminated all other vowels except ‘u’ and a couple of key consonants as it turns out
REBEL - picked the wrong one of only two possible answers
REVEL
It may have been from me. If so, I based my frequency counts on the answer list, not the entire guess list. (I don’t care at all about the guess list letter frequency.)
EDIT: Also if so, I can double check to verify my counts.
Count me as another who saw REVEL first but didn’t put it down. Unlike many of you, though, I avoided REBEL, thinking (perhaps overthinking) that the civil war connotation might make it unsuitable.
WHERE → OK, that limits the # of places where the E’s can go…Shift each over one? And I really need to hit on some consonants. R can go 1st, 3rd or 5th, let’s try leading off… REPEL → Good guess with the L. Two more possibilities… REBEL** → Not that one, so it must be… REVEL
Alas, missed playing yesterday. Scoredle, still obsessed with repeat letters, said I should have tried REFER with the second guess. I think Scoredle really values getting green letters, so doubling up on guesses that came up yellow is part of its bag of tricks. Seems to me like an easy way to get to a trap situation with fewer letters guessed…
J and Q are actually tied for last place, at 7 appearances each.
BTW, my frequency list is strictly from the answers of the Wordles that have already been played, up through #626 (HORSE). To each his or her own, but that’s all that I want to have information about, to preserve for myself the open-endedness of the game. So it may differ from the frequencies in the entire list of 2300+ solutions or from those of the list of nearly 15,000 words accepted as guesses. And apparently does.
