BIRTH → If you had told me I would hit with one letter, that’s not the letter I’d have guessed. Two vowels and two common cononants… BOSUN → Clean miss. Still haven’t tried A & E, or an L… BLADE → OK, looks like two options left… I’ll try M over Z… BLAME
I didn’t realize before how good of a trap BLA-E is. Good thing R & S were already gone…
You don’t have gray (white), your misses are black.
Now I’m also wondering where the blue and orange comes from, because I’m seeing both light and dark mode responses here where the only difference is the misses are either white (gray) or black. Including both yours and mine, where dark mode is green, yellow and black.
So I don’t actually know where the blue and orange comes from.
Hmmm, might be a combination of using dark mode in Wordle and which interface theme you use here on the SDMB.
My squares show up to me as white, yellow and green (you’re right, I get no gray). @Wheelz’s show up as dark gray, blue and orange. My SDMB interface theme is Vincent, which is dark.
That’s confusing because I use the regular light mode on the dope, but you and I have the same dark mode color scheme in Wordle. We need to get the Scooby gang on this mystery.
Another MIRTH before BIRTH guess (FIRTH would have been my next guess). Somehow I though BIRTH might have seemed indelicate to the NYT editor, making MIRTH more likely. Not so!

My short list of ‘not yet solutions’ words to try for Guess 2 came through for me here.
BLAME → With A & E out, I’ll try something with O & U… LOUTS → Let’s try something with our 3 letters in a row, from the start… SULLY → Ah, so close… SURLY
I think Scoredle has influenced me to try repeated letters earlier. Paid off here…
