Wordle 257 4/6
I dropped my usual second word after getting so many hits on the first one
I wouldn’t bet on that. My third was bourn.

Wordle 257 4/6
The “hard mode turns off on the migration” kicked in for me at some point and I didn’t notice until today. I’ve been playing by those rules anyway so no biggy.
Today I broke one of my own rules and used a letter in a known incorrect spot because I suspected it would give me important details, and it did basically solve the puzzle for me.
SWING (this morning’s song: Sultans of Swing)
CANOE
MOUND
MOURN
Wordle 257 4/6*
ADEPT
BRUSH
COURT
MOURN
Wordle 257 5/6
HEART
IVORY
POURS
GOURD
MOURN
Took me embarassingly long to figure out the answer with three letters in the right place:
Wordle 257 4/6
DROPS
ROGUE
COURT
MOURN
Wordle 257 4/6*
BEARD
QUIRT
CHURN
MOURN
I like that first word. I’ll give it a try tomorrow.
Wordle 257 4/6
HAIRY
STONE
CLUMP
MOURN
I find eliminating/confirming vowels early helps more than consonants.
I’m happy with another three.
Wordle 257 3/6*
IRATE
SHORN
MOURN
NASTY → As a Calvinist says after falling down the stairs, “at least that’s over with”
PRION → Good grief, what is it?
MOURN
I had to think a long time after the second guess. If it’s ??RxN, with X either E, U or Y, I couldn’t think of anything. There were some words with ?R??N, but they usually had ?R?ON, which wasn’t it. Eventually I thought ???RN and it fell into place.
And just for fun I tried Canuckle:
Canuckle 22 4/6*
BROTH
LOONY → This is their coin’s name, right?
WOODS
GOOSE
Kinda fun, but it’s been a while since I’ve watched Doug and Bob McKenzie, so I’m probably rusty on Canadianisms…
It may have already been mentioned, but there’s a Disney-themed version of this called “mickeyrdle”.
Having played it about a week, I noticed something.
Recent answers:
TWAIN
VADER
VILLE
WALLE
WENDY
and today’s
WITCH
Yep, they’re issued in alphabetical order.
My guess for tomorrow:
WOODY
I had enough information to get it in four and then totally brain-farted.
Wordle 257 5/6
FINAL
STONE
MORON
MOUND
MOURN
I guess my coffee hadn’t kicked in yet.
Why are some folks’ Wordles (actualy Wordles, not Canuckles or other variants) different colors than the usual? Probably answered elsewhere in the thread, but it’s a big thread.
High contrast mode in the Wordle settings.
I think that’s part of the answer and the other part is high contrast mode in the operating system itself.
ETA: There is also a dark theme setting in Wordle. Those are the dark incorrect squares instead of the light incorrect squares. @pulykamell, you seem to have dark theme enabled?
Let’s see. I have dark theme here, so – lemme check – yes, I have dark theme on Wordle, too. Hah. I didn’t even notice the white vs dark grey square in my posting. I was curious about the yellow-green vs blue-orange, as I get slightly confused which indicated the correct letter in the right place and which the correct letter in the wrong place (which is quickly ascertained by looking at the last line.)
To those of us with Deuteranopia (red-green color blindness) the default colors don’t appear different enough to tell apart at a glance. “High contrast mode” in the settings takes care of that.
(Edit to clarify: side-by-side, the colors look different, but if I get one letter right on my first guess, they’re similar enough that I wouldn’t be sure whether it’s in the right or wrong position.)
Agree here too. And, aieries remind me of a great winter day near St. Louis, seeing all the bald eagles that nest there.
Yeah, I figured that is what high-contrast mode was for. I know I’ve used special color tables in designing (or coloring in, rather), sections of our neighborhood map that were optimized for various types of color vision conditions.
Wordle 258 3/6
CRATE
PALED
AHEAD
Happy to finally get another 3.
