Wordle archive site by Metzger Media just got shut down by NYT… I don’t know how they lasted that long using the wordle name and linking to the current day puzzle. I wonder what is copywrite infringement- the board ? the color coded correct guess?
I enjoyed the 6 letter puzzle and the ability to try several a day.
So, anyone here undefeated? Who has the longest streak?
When this first went viral there were lots of columns giving advice from people who had forty or sixty straight wins. Maybe Dopers are smarter than the average bear, but this seems very doable.
Undefeated in 41 tries and counting.

I didn’t. But it didn’t help much. It was the second guess that really did it.

I very nearly went SKEET first too. Weird that several of us thought of that before the actual answer.
I had letters 1, 3 and 4 after my second guess which is great, but there ended up being surprisingly many options left for me to go through which is an annoying situation to be in.
I could have conjured up a word using many of those potential letters, narrowed it down and certainly nailed it in four, or take a punt on one of the options and potentially nail it three, more likely in four and definitely in five.
I took the second option and got it in four.
I haven’t read any of this this thread, so apologies if I am bringing up something that may already have been discussed.
I just joined a chat group, which purports to be a monthly Wordle contest. The participants all post their daily score by sending their colored tile results. These are tracked and the person with the lowest average wins something. To me, this is more of a contest of who comes up with the best first guess.
My idea is that everyone should start with the same first word each day. Perhaps everyone can take turns posting a 5 letter word each night, and everyone has to start with that word. Anyone try this, or have other thoughts on this idea?
Coming up with the first word is part of the fun.

After guess 2, I knew all but one letter. My first guess was wrong, so I’m glad I got it on the next one. I figured SWEET was more likely than SKEET or SLEET.
Wordle 262 4/6* 3/8/2022
HOARD → Five down, 21 to go!
SPOIL → OK, I wasted that O. Kicking myself here, SPELT would have been better (especially as it turned out…)
STUCK → And now, I felt like I really was. Gotta be an E in there - do I have two? Can’t be SWEDE…
SWEET
I though hard mode would prevent me from playing the O twice… I guess it really only forces green letters into place.
Your first word eliminated SLEET.
Until just this moment I had assumed SKEET wouldn’t be on the answer list because I was only thinking of the slang usage. But I just remembered skeet shooting is a thing. So it could be on the answer list.
But then again, neither of those definitions exactly jumps to the front of the list of words “my girlfriend will definitely know.”
Hard mode doesn’t prevent using known bad letters. It makes you use all of the known good letters. So greens in their places, and yellows have to be in subsequent guesses. You can leave a yellow in a known wrong spot, though.
