Got stuck with too many possibilities:
Wordle 262 6/6
CRISP
BATHE
STEED
SLEET
SKEET
SWEET
Were I thinking a little more, I’d probably’ve tried SWEET before SKEET, but the latter is what first came to mind. SWEET seems the more likely word for a puzzle like this, but I’ve been surprised before.
I just started doing the ones in the archive, and I don’t know if it’s just poor luck, or me being tired, but they seem harder.
I’m undefeated in the daily one, but have only played 43. I also only have 2 sixes. My other results are mostly 4s, with a bit fewer 5s, 8 3s, and one 2. (Zero 1s).
Yes, you’re right. I didn’t actually think of it until I was writing the post, perhaps for good reason, as you point out.
I’m yet another who thought of “skeet” (and also “sheet,” in my case) before “sweet”:
ALIEN, CRUET, BESET, SKEET, SHEET, SWEET
The ‘et’ at the end (confirmed after my second guess) had me thinking of French words common in English, which of course was a dead end. (And they’re probably NOT going to use “bidet” even though it’s a perfectly good five-letter word.)
As for as stats so far: I’m still 100% with 38/38. But too many more days like today and that may go downhill!
Normally I go for one vowel in the first word, two in the second, but I couldn’t think of any good word from HLNPTAIO that has two vowels and doesn’t end in a T. I had so much trouble I actually used a friggin K! My second choice was FAITH, but F would be a complete waste of a letter.
In hindsight, if I had thought of PATIO I probably would have played it. That’s too many vowels for me, though. I find 7 consonants and 3 vowels to be the perfect mix for research words.
Fortunately, for my third guess, when I start trying to win, I completely forgot the letter A existed. In my head the only possibilities were O and U. Probably because I’m so used to only leaving two vowels unchecked.
Is it really, though? I find it to be annoying. I’d much rather everyone start with the same word. Otherwise, the game really is almost all luck. Particularly with no guess clock. I also think you should have 60 seconds per guess.
Some starting words are better than others. There is even a mathematically optimal ‘best’ starting word to use. (TRACE). If you just use that every time you’ll come out ahead in the long run, no luck needed.
I find it more interesting / fun to try to think up new words every most days that are still good enough to have a real chance to solve in three.
