With two greens and a yellow I was definitely trying for a 2. First thing I saw was saint, but that’s already been an answer. Then taint. Then I noticed the _aunt variations. After eliminating the already used options, I just fell back on taint because it’s the first viable answer I saw.
When the A came back yellow again I was confused, but then of course agent became obvious.
Phrasing!
I keep forgetting to post in the mornings! A par. Meh.

As a late night/early a.m. insomniac, I’ll often get out of bed, pull up my phone, and see what my starting word(s) find, then go back to bed and run through possibilities in my mind.
Today’s Wordle was all about The Trap That Wasn’t. Lying in bed, I saw FAINT, PAINT, TAINT, DAUNT, GAUNT, HAUNT, JAUNT, TAUNT, and VAUNT. I’d have been happy with a 4 at that point! I mentally tried the A in the first position, but wasn’t coming up with anything.
So after I gave up and got out of bed, I checked my spreadsheet to find that JAUNT and TAUNT had been used already, that made the traps more manageable. I was looking for a word that had as many of D,F,G,H, and P as possible (I was mentally discounting VAUNT because it’s never without a suffix, usually ‘vaunted’), either an I or U as a vowel, and it would be nice to nail down the A in the second slot. With those letters on paper in front of me now, the F,G,H brought to mind that extremely dated expression of disgust, Faugh!, and I figured that if Wordle allowed it, that was as good a sleuth word as I was likely to come up with - a 4 was now worst case. And of course it showed that the A wasn’t in the second slot, which meant it had to hit leadoff, and it picked up the G for me, and there it was.
A fun Wordle, with a nice mix of skill and luck.
ETA: While I’m on the subject of insomnia, what does a dyslexic, agnostic insomniac do?
A. Sits up all night, wondering if there is a dog.

Wow, nice!
I want to catch the eclipse in April. We’ve got friends in NW Ohio (motto: “two hours from everywhere”) and we might see it with them. Way less spectacular scenery, needless to say, but we’d be able to get into the zone of totality, which would be cool - I’ve never seen a total eclipse before.

UNCLE → OK, not bad… feel like trying some comcons now
NERDS → No luck, and no letter placed either. Need to try a vowel, and the T, so
OFTEN → Hit the T, missed the vowel. Still feel like there’s another vowel out there. Perhaps ends in -ENT?
AGENT
I was running out of places to put the E. The rest was luck, especially since my third guess should have been OATEN.
