I thought I came up with a really good third guess, and was a little surprised that (a) it hadn’t already been a solution, and (b) it wasn’t today’s solution either. But no complaints. If my week-long streak of 3s was going to end, this was a good one to end it with.

ADULT → Ohhkay. Two vowels gone, at least. Let’s try N, R, S, and two of E, I, O to get

PROVE → No progress. A hard chip for par here. If I try a terminal Y, I could double up on the R for

I fell into the same trap as Rebo but so late that I had guessed a lot of letters, so there weren’t as many options. Though Scoredle reminds me I still could have ended up with a six, so there’s that.

Only about two dozen legit words were left after my opener, at least half of them ending in CH.
MERCY was all that was left after two. It took a minute, but I broke into a spontaneous Roy Orbison impression when I saw it.

I got very fixated on topal, which is not at all the word I was thinking of: topaz. Thankfully google was convincing that topal is not a word. It wasn’t until I was done with that mental misfire when I finally realized that the word had to end in T, which quickly led to splat.
