Guessed wrong in two places: whether or not to stay with my standard second word (the H in CHORE seemed like it would be wasted, but CHORE->CRIME meant swapping O for I as well), and going with BURST over WORST on 3. Well, some days you just guess wrong, and this was one of mine.

I actually saw WORST first. But having hit no vowels, I felt compelled to use both remaining ones. Of course, process of elimination would have told me if there was a U. I could go back and forth like this all day, but I chose what I chose and I’ll always take a birdie.

ADAPT → Once again, thought I was bound for a first guess strikeout. So now I’m thinking HEIST or ROUST - I prefer the vowels from the first over the consonants from the second, but I look a little harder and decide to try
