"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 2)

Glad your power came back on and that you can continue your streak to get past that almost-Nazi number.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this? The word, ‘Nazi,’ is implicitly not kind.

Ah. Not a reference with which I was familiar. Thanks for enlightening me.

Although I think I’m still 1,000 games away from attaining that dubious marker. Unlikely to make it, too.

Sadly, this one took me ages. Kudos to those who got it in 2, or in @Mark_Finn 's case, in 1!

Always nice when my standard follow-up word is the answer. (Standard for when L and T come back yellow, not standard always.)

For now - I’ll keep my three start words - even though now all of them have been solutions. I’ll try to come up with at least three new ones.

I was on Southwest flight 1488 about a year ago. I meant to write the airline to suggest they not use that number anymore, but I never got around to it.

Summary

After 1, the field was narrowed quite a bit, but not as much as I’d hoped. STOOL and STYLE had already been used, but there were still STILL  , STILT, STILE (as in turnstile), STOLE, STEEL, and SILTY. Also possibly STELE, but if I had to place a bet on whether it’s on the solutions list, I’d bet against it. (Not sure about STILE either; anyway, don’t tell me in either case.) I liked STEEL and STILL best, and either one would enable me to tell what the solution was if I assumed STILE and STELE were out. So I went with STEEL on 2, and STOLE on 3, and fortunately it wasn’t STILE.

I’m guessing there will be a lot of low numbers today. Fortunately for me, yesterday’s answer wasn’t somethinig like DIZZY…

Whatever the NYT may have added to the list, there were originally about 2300 words on the solutions list, so there are still well over 1300 unused solutions, if not more. So at least for the rest of this year, the odds of getting a 1 with an unused solution are >1000 to 1 against.

So my attitude is, while a 1 would be sweet, once I get a 1 with my starting word, I’m not changing it. I’ve got a system in place that I’m happy with, and I’m not going to monkey with it for a 1/1000 chance at a 1.

SLATE - With four letters, and only two places for the ‘L’ and ‘T’ to logically go, it’s a crap shoot.
STYLE - crap

TROPE
STOLE

A recent NYT article said that statistically the best start word for hard mode is TROPE, which I’ve been using for the past week, but today is the first day it’s really paid off. Since using it (instead of my previous start word, SLATE), I’ve had almost all 4s.

Just as a reminder, even if you asked to be told, we can only identify if a word was in the original answers list. We know the editor changed that list at least a little bit, so we can’t know for certain if any borderline word is in the new list or not.
