GREBE

After my 3rd fishing-for-letters guess, I came up with five possibilities that hadn’t already been used: BROKE, FROZE, GREBE, VERGE, and VERVE. (FORGE, GORGE, and GROVE had already been used.)
I didn’t really think GREBE was going to be the solution, but alone of all the five possibilities, it would guarantee a 5. A second E would narrow it down to VERGE or VERVE, and only one has a G. No second E would narrow it to BROKE or FROZE, and only one has a B.
So I did a good job of playing it safe. But I guess I should have gone for BROKE.

With grove having been a previous answer I could only see three possibilities. Normally I would do another research word to guarantee a 4, but I’m trying to catch my 3s up to my 4s so I played it straight up hoping for a 3. The order I saw the answers in was no friend to me this time.
Rough day today, for everyone, it seems. My streak of 3s is broken!

Wordle 672 2/6
This was a bizarre solve. I used one of my normal words to start ,then put in a second word that I realized had two errors already so
Wheat not bread so try broke
KAYAK → So, only one K, and in one of the middle positions. Not a bad start…
SKIER → I was lost for a while at this point, until I saw the -KE ending, at which point it was easy to get to
BROKE
But I almost went with SPOKE which would have been disastrously bad given one guess prior.

Hallelujah! My first three in almost two weeks!
There were eight possible words left, so I probably should have done a sleuth word. But since I only found four of the eight, I went for it, and got lucky.

CUBED
BROKE
Guess 2 revealed the trap; I had five possibilities that hadn’t yet been solutions or that weren’t ruled out by eliminated letters. CUBED was a sleuth word that narrowed it down enough to give me a hard-fought (and time-consuming) par.
I think I made this harder than it should have been. Definitely out of practice.

Getting stuck in the O_E trap out the gate wasn’t looking too promising, though better early than late. Ruled out quite a lot of words with Clove. Thinking I should check the R in the 2nd spot, the only words that hadn’t been ruled out (or previously used) that I could see were Broke and Froze (didn’t think Grope would be used), and I picked the right one.
