I really thought I had it on four. I was getting tired of going through the possibilities and I almost guessed GORGE so when I saw the first letter turn I thought it was good.

I have not been doing the puzzle every day anymore, and I stopped my subscription to NYT
REALM → OK, good start. Try two more comcons, add an O for a vowel hunt, shake jumble-style and try
SNORE → Good luck on the O, and a placed E is nice. T is still out there, and I can see one word that tries it
TORTE → In retrospect, should have tried FORTE, covering yet another consonant. For a second here, I was thinking GORGE, but an aversion to another repeat-letter debacle caused me to look around and try
FORGE → which pretty much… well… forced me into the answer
FORCE
So, I really screwed up that third guess, but if I had gone with my retrospective instinct, I probably still would have ended up with a bogey. Scoredle, OTOH, lucks into the first letter on the second guess by going on a search to place the E, and ends up with a good coin flip for a par.
Still nestling with the 3s today.

Not my best-played game. Should have put the E at the end sooner, and WORSE didn’t eliminate anything but itself. Still, it was a mini-trap, so who knows how it might have gone.
The good news is that I wasn’t in danger of a fail, and at least five is better than six.

After 2 I saw tabby and then taffy and thought “ugh” for both. Got so happy when I saw tacky but no joy. Then, completely stumped, I sincerely thought “well, I could try trusting the B” and typed in TAB and just stared at it for a minute until taboo finally appeared.
My Platoon number in boot camp was Platoon 1016.
