SLANT
PLAIT
I knew this word, and not just as a proper noun (Phil Plait, aka the Bad Astronomer, used to hang out here), but it’s uncommon enough that even after seeing it pretty quickly, I looked at every combination of letters that could fit in those two empty spaces before shrugging and going with it.
I saw it too, but messed up and got a 4.
Not a fan of words like this. They aren’t proper Wordle words in my opinion.
I knew what it was but still chose PLAID over PLAIT figuring that the latter was more obsure. Then, with all other options eliminated, I got it in 4.
If I were Wordle Boss, I would declare that all words have to be commonly used in day to day conversation, and I would decree that the difficulty increase over the week, culminating in some weird thing with traps and three and a half vowels (but still commonly used in conversation!) on Friday. I would ask that the first day or two of the week words be solvable by ESL speakers so they can join in the fun.
Of course, I’m not Wordle Boss, so you don’t have to suffer under my silly rules!

SERUM → Whiff. Take two, and a good “restart” word at that…
TONAL → Not bad for that restart. I’m seeing a word that would knock out the remaining vowels, and that is too tempting to resist…
LAITY → And I hit on one of them. I see one word that I can get by moving all the letters over one and adding a new start, and all the letters go into a new spot, so…
PLAIT
From all gray through yellows to green in four. Scoredle gets the first letter with its second guess, then gets a much more methodical four out of it.

AUDIT
TRAIT
PLAIT
Congrats on all the twos today!
I got lucky with the -IT ending on my starter, and I did see PLAIT at two, but resisted it as being too obscure. ![]()
Didn’t really want to double up on a placed letter, but after a couple minutes I saw no other options. If I’d given in to temptation and checked the used word list (TRAIT is on it), I would have gone with TACIT, so it wouldn’t have helped. HABIT is the word I didn’t see.
I think no matter what the solution or my second word had been, I was destined for a three today.
