Out-clevered myself this morning. My usual second word, CHORE, would have narrowed it down to just the solution. But I noticed that there were a limited number of possible last letters, given what I had after my starting word, so I decided to attack that. Wound up with two possibilities for my third guess, and lost the coin toss that it shouldn’t have come down to in the first place.
I’m in with the in crowd this morning.

Another day, another trap.
GLEAM → Slow start. Should try three comcons and another vowel. Double up on the E to try to place it? Seems early. OK, here’s a word
TINES → Thought of RINSE right after trying this. Not much progress, but I’ll move the NE over and try again. If I try O as my vowel, and an R, I can see (‘C’?)
CRONE → There’s gotta be a vowel between the R & N, and it pretty much must be a U, so that leaves

An old woman eating dried plums with a polished fork? I guess it has some potential as a Wordle story. Scoredle actually tries the “repeat an unplaced letter” trick and ends up worse than how I finished.

I was looking for prunes in a small store just hours ago, and didn’t find them. I never thought they’d turn up in Wordle!
And what a symmetrical pattern!
