Dang, I really thought I was about to sink the birdie after whiffing the opener.
LANAI was also possible at three, but I didn’t see that either.
The world of Wordle is capricious indeed.

IRATE
INLAY
According to WordleBot, there were only 2 words after IRATE that would work: One was INLAY and the other was ILIAC, which I would never have thought of. INLAY sprang to mind rather quickly because the NY Times had used that word in yesterday’s crossword. I’ve noticed they sometimes like to do that, share words between the 2 puzzles. Pretty lucky!
Scoredle mentions IXNAY, which AFAIAC is slang of sufficient longevity that I’d be OK with it as a solution. Certainly more so than ILIAC (“of or pertaining to the ileum” which in turn is a particular portion of the small intestine), which is a word I’d never heard of until just now.
That’s the sort of solution that bothers me the most: words that may be everyday words if you are in a particular field or have a particular hobby (like BEVEL), but if you’re not, you’d almost never encounter them.
My third choice was inlaw but Wordle said its not a word.

INLAY → Slow start. 3 WoFcons left, I can try them with I & E via
REIST → Still feels a little slow; let’s assume no O or U and exercise a lot of consonants
THICK → Good one! Only see one word left
THIGH
Scoredle ends up winning this in four through the process of elimination; it fails to place the I until that last guess, and only adds the T on the third guess. Two very different approaches end up with the same score.

Not a bad outing, for whiffing the first guess.
Also, they shouldn’t penalize your streak when you miss a day. I consider myself on a 146-day streak, and fuck them if they don’t like it!
