ADAGE
I knew the D could only be first if R or E could be second, and last if E was first. and ELAND struck me as less plausible than ADAGE (apparently thee bot agrees, since it said I had eliminated all the words in its dictionary).

BUDDY → Actually a slightly better start than I expected. Nice to pick up a less-common letter with yesterday’s answer, let’s see if it helps… Try E & A and two WoFcons to go with that D
DEARS → Good choice on the vowels, even if I struct out with R & S. Only two places left for the D, but unfortunately I brainfarted and retried one of them
GLADE → But, picking up the G was nice too. Makes the final guess easy
ADAGE
If I had only realized that third guess was invalid, I might have gotten the birdie. Scoredle tried (heh) for I & E with its second guess, and ended up with a par of its own. A missed chance to beat the bot!

I missed seeing AGAVE and AMAZE. If it had been AMAZE, I would have gotten a six (APACE, stare blankly for a while, AMAZE). If it had been AGAVE, it’d have gone AGAPE, AGAZE, FAIL.
So I’ll take a bit of luck.

After 2, I came up with 17 good possibilities, and the used words list knocked it down to 11. 6 of them had Es, there were 5 ending in NAL, including 3 ending in ENAL. I liked VENAL better than PENAL or RENAL, and it narrowed things down nicely.

ADAGE → One and only one A. No WoFcons gone, so that’s the main priority…except that the A isn’t in the middle, so I should put at least some effort into vowels. Hence,
RAINS → Good, but I really need to get those placed. I’ll move the A over to the next spot open and try a word with another WoFcon, in this case
FINAL → which was not the final word, alas. I almost wanted to go PLAIN here, but moving the A is verboten, so I though a little more about moving the IN to the front, L in the middle gives up
INLAY
All in all, took less than a minute from start to finish. Scordle prefers a different second guess, but is right with me on the third and fourth.
