I feel like there were a lot of other possible answers it could have been. It’s always nice when the first thing I see in such a situation turns out to be the answer. Gives me that simpatico feeling, like I’m thinking like Wordle.

QUITE
After 2, I saw QUITE pretty quickly, but like Ellis, I had the feeling that there must be a number of other possibilities out there. But finally, not seeing anything else, I had to just give up and go with it. As it turned out, there wasn’t much else out there in my case, just BUTTE and TEPEE, which I would have considered less likely, so I don’t feel bad about not seeing them.
Something similar happened to me yesterday, I saw DECOR, but had already eliminated the R. But I thought, maybe some other letter would work in that spot, and then I saw the solution quickly.
(Spoilering because it’s still yesterday in a couple of time zones out there.)

DECOY → About as good a start as I could have expected. Time for a good first guess second - and I think I’ll really exercise the vowels with this one
RAISE → Good luck on the vowels. Not so much with the consonants. Three WoFcons remaining, and it’s a good thing I didn’t see TWINE or I might have gone for it. Instead, I got obsessive about the remaining vowels and picked
GUILE → and once I saw the S would slot in 4th, realized what must go before the U
QUITE
Getting that second character with the third guess was a stroke of luck - I was headed for a tough trap otherwise, with Scoredle showing me at least ten and maybe more than a dozen non-bogus entries. Then again, Scoredle makes the same guess with its third, and is even luckier as it had 110 words to choose from, about 20 of which were non-bogus. Moral of the story, it’s good to be a vowel completist.

I found this one QUITE challenging. I smelled the __I_E trap right away and my second word confirmed it, but alas, no consonants yet. I could have swung for the fences at three, but the odds were too long for my liking, with a good chance of not eliminating much if wrong. So I chose a sleuth word, and it turned out to be a good one!
Happy with the par here.

I wasn’t quite expecting that to be the answer, but out of the 5 words I had, I could see that it’d tell me exactly which one it was. Nailed it! ![]()
ETA - I wasn’t sure I had all words it could be, so I just put my results in Scoredle, and turns out I missed seeing 3 words (not including the bogus words it always shows)…I was lucky it wasn’t one of them.
