CHASE
ABASH
AWASH
After my starting word, I was seeing a lot of words like CHASE, CRASH, and CHASM, so I took a chance with CHASE on 2. After that, I just saw ABASH and QUASH; I decided the latter was a bit too specialized a word. Good thing because if I’d guessed that on 3 I’d have had a 5 since I didn’t see AWASH until after I’d tried ABASH.

ROAST
CHASM
GNASH
AWASH
A tough word today, but I also didn’t play it particularly well. Played too quickly without thinking enough about the possible outcomes. CHASM eliminated almost nothing, and in fact, AWASH would have been the smartest move at three, solution or not.

Took a chance at guess #3 instead of going with a sleuth for the three words, and luck was on my side. Worst I’d have done is a 4 though, since two of them started with an A, but 3’s are more fun. ![]()

PORCH → Not bad. Need some vowels, so E & A, and pick a pair of WoFcons from the 4 that are left. Couldn’t find a good word with T, so I went with
LEASH → Which looks like a trap. I can try a word with a T, to appease my WoFcon obsession, but it takes another S. Well, what the heck.
STASH → Nope. Looking through remaining letters now. Ah, there’s a very singular one I’d better check
QUASH → Wasn’t that. Oh, there’s a word with a repeated A that I need to try
AWASH
I’m somewhat embarrassed that I didn’t see ABASH. (heh) In the event, my last guess had me covered if it had been any of the three words remaining. Scoredle shows nine possibles after two, at least 6-7 of which are non-bogus, so that’s a high ratio and a tough trap. Scoredle is also more clinical about it, finishing in 4 what might have taken me the distance to guess.

AWASH
Given my usual strategies, this was never going to be an easy one. After my first two submissions established which vowels weren’t in the solution, I looked for a word with four consonants I could eliminate (and without an “A,” so as not to distract myself with an unhelpful yellow square.) The “H” made xxASH a pretty easy decision, And SLASH eliminated the “L.”
How can you successfully insert a double carriage return without disrupting your spoiler tags?
At this point there were two guesses left, and three possible solutions, GNASH, AWASH, and ABASH (although if I’d bothered to check the Used Words list, I wouldn’t have needed to eliminate GNASH.) BROWN did an admirable job of leading the way.
ETA: No, really, How can you successfully insert a double carriage return without disrupting your spoiler tags? I want my paragraph breaks, and I’m not crazy about hand-coding my spoiler tags multiple times in a single post.
