Thought there might be a xxUxE trap there for a hot minute. I knew we wouldn’t get a UxxxE word, though, so ENSUE was a no-brainer.

Okay, for the benefit of the slow*, what’s with the digits following the wrong guesses?

*a group in which I include myself

Number of possible answers remaining. I forget which bot tells you this info.

It’s Scoredle. And those numbers mostly include what I’d call ‘bullshit words,’ words that aren’t just words you’d think ‘they wouldn’t use that as a solution, would they?’ but words that you think, ‘I can’t believe that’s a word, I never heard of it before.’

Yesterday, for instance, Scoredle said there were 16 possible words after my second guess. Some of those 16 were real words. Others included moler, poler, lorel, roleo, rowel, borel, forel, and rello.

LOWER → Alright, that’s… not a lot to go on, but I can throw in an E and the last three WoFcons, and get… I’m not seeing much. But I did plug one combination into Wordle, and it took it, so
STANE → So now I’m thinking about U or I as vowels, and when you pair either up with that N you get a good prefix, and it turns out that led to one word that I decided to try because I just can’t
UNSEE → it. So the solution was obvious
ENSUE

It turns out my third guess isn’t even on Scoredles list of possible words! Go figure. Scoredle also picks it up in four, so I’m happy even if my word is a little off the beaten path - but I swear I’ve heard it, if only through slang.

I started thinking of ‘O’ words, then decided it would be wise check the U as well. Good thing I did. ENSUE jumped right out at me, and then I saw SURGE. Won another coin flip!

Interestingly, Scordle goes for SENSE after ASIDE, even though the E is placed, and completely ignores O and U. And also gets it in three.

That’s because your opening word already eliminated E from the fourth position.

Duh! Thanks.
