MULCH → Bit of a low start. One of my “second words first” goes so well here I just had to try it, though in retrospect I could have tried ROUTE
ROUST → Not that this guess was bad, mind you. To cover the E, I did decide to repeat a letter, which gave me
TRUER → and even though the second R missed, I had enough info to make the par a gimme
BRUTE
SAUTE is Scoredle’s second word, which I think is brilliant - better than either of mine - though it misses a coin toss with the second guess and ends up with the same par I eventually scored. All in all, a good fun puzzle today.

READY (Let the vowel hunt begin!)
OURIE (Doesn’t seem to have the makings of a trap. Let’s try a sleuth word)
PUNCH (I kinda expect a T will be involved. And a B looks like it will be needed)
BRUTE (et voila!)
Got my winning streak to 366 today. It’s a leap year.

got a small assist from the NYT acrostic I was working on- the clue was African Queen hazard which was RAPIDS, but then the voice of Katherine Hepburn shouting “Leeches!” stuck in my mind since then, inspiring my second guess.

I thought of BELCH right away, but it had already been used. And FELCH was right out. Took me a while to find the solution.
BRUTE → Thought for a second I would strike out completely. Ah, well, I can thrown in an A and the last three WoFcons and try
LEANS → That’s good… but now what? I hung up here for a while thinking and eventually tried
LEGGY → but, having broken the repeat letter taboo, that led me to see

LEVEL, a double-repeater, was also out there. Scoredle also makes its way to a four; it does its standard trick of repeating the first letter it can find and fairly quickly figures out the mystery I had to blunder into solving. Nice, though lucky, par.
