Retrospectively, there were maybe only five legitimate possibilities left after my second guess - SKIMP, SKIFF, SQUIB, SQUID, and SUDSY - but when you’ve only found one letter, the fact that you’ve eliminated all the words that include A,C,E,H,L,N,O,R, or T, which eliminates a metric ton of words, still doesn’t really help you see what’s left. So I still had to go fishing with guess #3.
