QUAKE → Slow start. With A gone, let’s try an O and three WoFcons
LONER → Oh, hell. I have six spaces to try from 16 vowels. There are some subtraps, [BCMPS]OWER, I should try that first
SOWER → Nope. What’s next?
DOPER → Eh, maybe not the best one to try. With a V, we have [CHM]OVER, so a swing at
HOVER → Ahhh. What’s left?
FOYER
BOXER, BORER, and others whose bogusness I cannot objectively evaluate were still out there, as well as the answer. I think this trap, or the similar one with A, has let to the bulk of my misses.

I thought GUIDE would be a challenging start word, but I went with what the random generator gave me. Turns out that G saved me from a nasty trap.

I generally dislike -ER words as solutions (seems like Wordle leans on them a little too heavily), especially questionable ones like this.

So I’ll consider myself lucky today.
