This could have gone very very badly. I was in a hurry and too stubborn to step away from hard mode. There were still 7 or 8 legit words left.
The “Phew” comment would have been appropriate today, par notwithstanding.

Decided to go off my usual SLANT-CHORE-DUMPY sequence at 2 with a consonant-heavy word that would hit most of the consonants of both CHORE and DUMPY at once. CRAMP had already been used, so nothing to lose by trying CRIMP instead to check for the I. Drew a blank, so now I was floundering.
HEADY had already been used, but it was the best I could think of to find some letters; at least it got me the E. After this, I thought that maybe the empty space before the A might be filled up with a QU. QUAKE hadn’t been used, so I went with it, and got lucky, because there were other possibiities I didn’t see.
If I’d stuck with my standard sequence, I’d have had xUAxE after 3, and QUAKE would have been the only possibility. Always good to get a cost-free reminder of why I should stay with my standard sequence until I know enough to guess at a solution.

This was heading south in a hurry. Got very lucky on the answer.
WATER → Perhaps no more vowels are needed? Last three WoFcons can be covered with
LEANS → E on the end? If all consonants before the A, I need a letter that can go in that second slot, and H fits the bill with
CHAFE → E is where I expected. I don’t see many more all-consonant words… so, ah, QU- and
QUAKE
I wasn’t very imaginative. Scoredle shows twelve possibles for my last guess, only half of them bogus. Scoredle itself goes the distance, with a tap-in for double bogey.
