There were several possibilities after 2; the solution was the choice that would guarantee a 4 if it didn’t turn out to be the solution. Nice when that happens. ![]()

Grrr. Stuck in the damn -ER trap with too many possibilities.
Depending on which figures you use, the percentage of Wordle solutions ending in -ER is about 1-2% higher than the percentage of all five-letter words with that ending. I would have suspected even more; they seem to go to that well a lot.

DRILL → Need vowels, so try a pair along with two WoFcons.
NEARS → That worked OK, but I think I need at least one more. Unfortunately, in an attempt to get both T and O, I erred by repeating the R placement
TROPE → At least I got a placed T. With two spots left for the R, I abandoned by vowel hunt and tried to go for one of them
THREW → And with that, there was but one word left
TUBER
Even though I erred with my third guess, Scoredle says it brought the number of possible guesses from 150 down to five, so it was still a positive. Scoredle, though, gets its guess count on the third guess from 102 down to three, then guesses right on a 50-50 for the par.
Huh. I’d been under the impression that Hard Mode didn’t allow that.
So, if I’m not mistaken, you have to use a placed letter in its place, and you have to use an unplaced letter somewhere. Is that correct?
But apparently it’s OK to use an unplaced letter where you already know it doesn’t go.
