MOTEL → Whiff. A, I and the last three WoFcons and there will come soft
RAINS → OK. Move the I over one and I see… two choices. In this case I will not trust the B
RAPID → I should have trusted the B
RABID
Trusting the B would have been a better choice anyway as there were three other valid possibles that my move did not distinguish well between, had one of them been the actual solution. Scoredle makes yet another methodical four, so I’ll give it the honors for better play today.

RABID
Joining the RAPID/RABID club.
For a start word with four vowels, that worked out pretty well.

I know Wardle’s solutions list is out there, but I haven’t tried to find it and don’t want to see it.
I don’t mind seeing the occasional mention of an unused solution that is (or isn’t) on Wardle’s list. But if I had access to his solutions list, I would be unable to resist the temptation to turn my playing of the game into an almost mathematical exercise where I knew all the best plays in advance. At which point it wouldn’t really be a game for me anymore.
The essential part of the game that makes it interesting for me is the part where I wrack my brain to try to think of words that might fit what I know so far about the solution. If I could just pull those words off a list, that would be gone for me. So that’s why I had no idea that LITER might not be on the solutions list.
Obviously no criticism is intended of anyone who chooses to access that list. We all have different ways of enjoying this game.
The bolded sentence is true for me also.
It was only a two weeks ago that Rebo told me that most plurals and -s verb inflections were never used. Was/Is that published as part of Wordle instructions? Is it wrong to use that knowledge? I do wrack my brain to think of words and then – like many others here – check them on the already-used list. I would LOVE it if NYTimes followed your suggestion and re-used words … but they don’t.
And many of the words I think of are marked as colloquial or dialectic. Are they valid?
You are one who pointed out here that new words have been added to Wardle’s list. Reliance on the Wardle list may “bite one in the arse”!
I play without considering previous solutions, off-limits kind of words like plurals, or any lists. I just try what fits.

But not very often, unless they change things up considerably. Given that the first instance of a non-Wardle solution was Wordle #646, and through the end of July (Wordle #1503) just 17 non-Wardle solutions had appeared, that seems like a large enough sample to suggest that we’ll probably only see another 15-20 non-Wardle solutions the rest of the way, if they were to never start re-using solutions. Though I have to believe they will start doing that at some point just to be able to use this game indefinitely.

Guessed wrong at 3 between ABODE and AWOKE. ABOVE and ADOBE had already been used. Going with ABODE at 3 would have solved it in 4 even if none of these words had been used before.

I didn’t see anything in Wordle’s “How to play” or “Tips and Tricks” pages that mention this specifically. But it seems to be almost a universal rule of word games with a fixed size or minimum length that words ending in S are not used. (I’m not sure that even needs to be spoilered, it’s so common.) If you play Spelling Bee, you’ll notice that you rarely see one there.
