GUISE- LARPing served me well, and I’m also glad I didn’t first go down the QUI rabbit hole.

After #1 I compiled a list of 19 fitting words (mainly to see what patterns were likely)
of which 14 were already-used. A “sleuth word” was probably best, but I found that
Douse (or Noose) offered a possible Two and a guaranteed Three provided that
(a) the secret was not Copse, a word I mentioned earlier as possibly too uncommon
for Editor to choose, and
(b) the secret word was one of the five not-yet-used words I had found after #1.
Alas, I had overlooked Guise and felt lucky to score Par.

SHORT → Slow start, three WoFcons gone, let’s use E & A & L & N with that S on
LEANS → Not much help there. I thought a long time about this one before I saw
WISED → Then it took me a couple minutes to try to move the known letters over one, add a U and then I saw
GUISE
Turns out it was a tap-in for par, but it didn’t feel like it. Scoredle also pars, but does so by eliminating words ruthlessly, and has just the two final letters found and in green when it holes out.
