I almost put in LURID at two (honest!), but decided I wanted an A instead of a U. Still a nice birdie though.

SLATE
BLIND
CLUNG
Color me boring, but I’ll just use the Best Starting Word™ every time!
After the Green L I quickly found 14 fitting words, 12 of which were already used.
I sifted methodically through another 14 fitting words, and again 12 were already used.
These repeated experiments show me that even if there are a thousand Wardle words still unused,
a large share of these are being rejected by the NYT editor.
Expect him to reset the game very soon.
The four words I was left with were Fluid, Blind, Blood and Bloom.
Any of them would guarantee a Three IF the word wasn’t a 5th word I’d overlooked,
Blind seemed best for “sleuthing” those unthought-of words.
Sure enough, the word was one I’d overlooked. (Were there others?)
ETA: Yes! Plonk, though it isn’t a Wardle word.

LURID → Feel like I need to catch up on vowels, so I tried two more with
MULEY → I was feeling stubborn. And unfortunately I repeated the U placing. Duh. So, one more vowel, and a pair of the remaining WoFcons to get
SAULT → Still stuck on two letters. But since the L is likely before the U, probably no more vowels - so load up on consonants, including my last WoFcon with
CLUNK → Missed it by that much
CLUNG
I’ll put that bogey at the feet of my lousy follow-up guess, which put me on the ragged edge of disaster before I was bailed out by guess #4. As it turns out, Scoredle’s second guess uses two of the same letters as mine, but it it much better formed and propels the algorithm to a par.
