Got lucky in the mini-trap: could’ve also been GRAPE, GRAZE, DRAKE, or REAVE. BRAKE, BRAVE, DRAPE, FRAME, and GRADE had already been used.

UPDRY — possibles are agree amber barer barge brave braze eager farer frame gamer gazer grave graze harem hazer rager rarer raver rawer razer wafer wager waver waxer; but previous Wordles have included agree amber barge brave eager frame gamer gazer wafer; so the remaining possibles include barer braze farer grave graze harem hazer rager rarer raver rawer razer wager waver waxer; of these the most likely include grave graze harem rager rager; therefore, can eliminate letters B F G H M V W Z; perhaps try sleuth word(s) bough rough?
ROUGH — this is key, got the G; it’s almost certainly either grave or graze

SLATE
VAPID
GRAVE
I’m thinking of switching my #1 to Slant, perhaps, but I wanted to give
Slate a chance to redeem itself. After #1 I thought of 16 words but 11 were
Already-Used and Brane was (unsurprisingly) missing from Wardle’s list.
The A and I were useless in #2; I just wanted to sleuth V,P,D to guarantee
a Birdie if the word was Drake, Grave, Graze or Grape.
Yay me! My current streak is up to 1 !
No, I didn’t forget to do #1614. I’ll show it all inside a Spoiler tag so the
kindest among you can spare me some humiliation
I had a streak of 70 going into yesterday’s Wordle.
31 Pars and 29 Birdies.

SLATE
BEGAN
WAVER
RARER
PAYER
FAKER
As usual, after #1 I started a list of possible words, just to get
an idea of how to “sleuth.” Over a dozen words of the form _A_ED or A__ED
were possible, but none of them are Wardle words. Edema was among several
other words not in Wardle’s list. After rejecting more than a dozen
already-used words, my preliminary list had three words like Began and three
words like Waver.
What I needed was a good sleuth word, but even a sleuth word needs a vowel,
and there probably wasn’t a 3rd vowel to sleuth for. A doubled-E seemed more likely
than I, O or U but doubling a letter this early is very expensive.
If I asked 4 consonants and a vowel I’d want to repeat the A or E I think but in novel
position. I couldn’t think of such a sleuth word. Grind, Crimp. Nymph, Mercy are
possibilities but not perfect. Perhaps SLATE is too good of a start: It’s too
hard to follow when the two vowels turn yellow. Instead of Slate, I may try a new start:
SLANT? STEAL?
Finally I decided asking 3 new consonants was almost as good as asking 4 new consonants.
Big mistake. After that I just rushed ahead, asking the first fitting words that popped
to mind. My excuse will be that the Maker of Heaven and Earth is a proper noun!

MAKER → A little rearranging, add two WoFcons, stir and get
LEARN → Move E to the end, R second, T still out there so
GRATE → Uh oh. Stepped right in the trap. I count… five possibles, CDPVZ, and only three guesses. Ah well, here we go
GRADE → Nope.
GRACE → Nope. Last chance
GRAPE
My latest streak has gone to its… well, you know. Scoredle checks a trap letter with its second guess, which gives it a better chance than I of evading the trap, and it does so with a bogey. See you tomorrow, Wordle!
