I think I had more trouble with this one than anyone else here.
I convinced myself that it had to be xIxTA, and spent far too long on that before giving it up.
Then, even after putting the I at the end, I guess I wasn’t in the mindset of a plural noun, as I kept wanting to pronounce the terminal I as “ee” instead of “eye.” It was only after I actually typed in “XAXTI” that the light bulb clicked on. Visual aid for the win!
Still not mad at a par after the opening whiff.

Yesterday I started Slate, which would have scored quadruple!
But I’m renouncing that seductive Slate with her double vowel,
and plan on being faithful to the flexible Trend/Coals. Six words
were possible, but Asset, Saute, Baste and Waste were already used.
I got lucky, choosing Haste instead of Paste.

RANTS → On reflection, SALTY would have gone better here, but I got very lucky with the word I did see
HASTY → While it’s a shame I went for Y instead of E, I did manage to astutely (luckily?!?) avoid the trap here

As noted above, I got very lucky with my third guess. Scoredle falls into the trap and, with a 50-50 putt to avoid a loss, gets the answer instead of repeating that first known consonant (which would have meant a loss). On the plus side, Scoredle has nary a yellow letter on its board, which has to count for something, right?

I spotted the _ASTE trap before I fell into it, and managed to save par. Good thing, too - hard mode would have been a 1/3 chance of a fail.
