Yeah I get that. For me, using the list of prior solutions is somewhat like remembering that a word was the solution from X weeks ago. Or having a list of prior solutions, like you have. But there’s now been over 1,600 puzzles so the ‘list’ is too long to remember. And I and others did not have either the foresight or grit and persistence to create and maintain a list of solutions for the last almost 4 years. It’s great that you have your list.
Hey, we’ve been doing this game here on the SDMB since Christmas Eve 2021!
WAIST → Slow start - I was almost thinking whiff, until that last yellow came up. O, E and a couple more WoFcons gets us TONER → Progress is slow. L & U are still out there, I can try them both with a word that I don’t think is really a word, but that Wordle might consider to be LETUP → Yep. Four letters found but nothing placed. So now I’m sorting through lots of different arrangements of what I have, and after a few minutes I see
GLUTE → Which I should have waited a minute or two for to think about what’s more common and what has other consonants FLUTE
After that third guess, I had what should have been a tap-in, but for some reason I flashed back to an old King of the Hill episode instead of Ian Anderson and Ann Wilson. Scoredle makes the par, out of seven possibles with that guess, though only the one that ranks as nonbogus.
My wife got Wordle in two today, BUT… her sister got it in two and had texted my wife her results. My wife knows her sister’s starting word, so she played the same starting word and also got it in two. Cheating? She says there were 14 words left after her first guess, so it’s not like the answer was obvious. But it still seems kinda shady to me.
I still consider it a flaw in the game rules that an already used solution can be played so not conflicted by a look up table ..no difference in my mind if it resides in your computer or online.
There are aids that can solve most every puzzle very easily - I avoid those except when I’m tired and just flat out hit a wall and want to know the answer. Almost gave up today then the answer dawned.
For instance today I wiffed three times in a row even WITH the lookup- given my start info it would have just been a pointless exercise of flat out guessing with no lookup. Instead it was a very satisfying exerecise for an aging brain chasing a valid solution I KNOW was attainable.
There were 230 valid words given my two known letters. Not my idea of fun.
I can’t agree with this. A used word might help a player hunt for letters on the way to solving, for instance. And many of us like to play each game as its own stand-alone event.
In any case, sooner or later they’re going to have to start reusing words. The first day that happens is gonna be crazy around here!
And many of us like to play each game as its own stand-alone event.
Then it degrades into a rather boring guessing game far too often. The game already allows the use of many words that cannot be solutions. Keeping used solutions in play is a choice of the game maker that I disagree with.
I much prefer to know there is a fox in field to hunt.
SLATE
WRUNG
GRAVY
After Slate I made a list of fitting words which occurred to me.
Pruning away the Already-used I was left with Wharf, Fraud, Drank,
Crack, Wrack, Quark, Quack, Guava, Gravy, Prawn – ten words.
It was fun to look for a “sleuth word” that would guarantee a Birdie
IF the word was one of the ten. Wrung did the trick.
