FRUIT → Well, that’s something, and it lines up a good first word second.
LEARN → Nice pickup. I thought about trying to find a word here with both O & Y, but decided there probably wasn’t one with an E in second. So prefering the O, and exercising the S, meant
RESOD → D! Well that was a stroke of luck. Only three combinations left, and working through them I see one word

Going into my third guess, Scoredle shows 150 possibles, and I chose the 114th. It led to a tap-in par, which makes it a mighty lucky guess (though the number of possibles is expanded by a lot of regular plurals). Scordle’s second guess (an aggressive placement play) leads it to a tap-in birdie - five possibles, four bogus.

RATES → And once I started looking at the I, it was pretty obviously

SPREE and SHREW were also possible, so my cocky third guess conclusion was unwarranted. Scoredle narrows it down to 27 possibles with its second guess, but then fails to see that the answer is the only nonbogus word on its list - the only one without a terminal S - so it guesses one of the bogus ones, and ends up with a par.
