FABLE → That’s a pretty slow start, but a rarer consonant is nice to have. I’d like to exercise two vowels and a WoFcon and double that consonant up, but I think I’ll need a bogus word to do so
RIFFY → Yep, pretty bogus. I guess that F is at the end. O & U are still out there, I tried a bunch of “words” using both and hit with
GROUF → Yet another bogus word! And it leads me directly to
PROOF
My second guess was way down in the list of possibles, but a whole lot of those had a terminal-S. I’m starting to think that Scoredle could be better if it incorporated a little tweak about those words into its algorithm. Also, I’m a bit ashamed because the solution was the only non-bogus word left after my second guess, so a birdie was there for the taking. Scoredle in fact takes advantage of that and birdies its puzzle - that opener was a good one in this case, because it bogeys the hole from its own start.

I did not expect F to be the one hit I got on that start word!
I broke my usual rule and doubled up on an already-placed letter, to no avail. (Scordle chose STAFF there, so I don’t feel so stupid.)
Then I picked the wrong __OOF word and laid up for the tap-in par.
A couple of unlucky guesses but still an acceptable result.

After the triple-hit on Slate I thought of 5 words that were Already-used,
a whopping 7 uncapitalized, non-obsolete words missing from Wardle’s list,
leaving AFAIK only two possible Wardle words.
After Satin, only the non-Wardle Sitar fit.

Almost went with STEAK, but with possibilities like SATYR, SATAY, SUTRA, and possibly SAITH left, I wanted something that could nail down the 3 for certain, and SITAR did that. Good luck that it was actually the solution.
