HOGAN could be tomorrow’s, right? Getting those first couple of letters, one placed, seems like this should have been better than a par, right? Scoredle has the same pair of ending words, and settles for par itself. My second guess was 5th on Scoredle’s list of possibles, so I did almost as well as the algorithm did. There weren’t many possibles with a terminal S after the initial guess, oddly, so they didn’t occupy a huge chunk of the solution space like usual.

This was one where a dead-trees dictionary was helpful. The solution had to start with CI, CU, or CY, and a lot of the potential third letters had been knocked out already, which meant that I only had to look through a few pages. I came across only one other possibility besides the solution, and CIVIC had already been used.
