"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 3)

ATLAS → One and only one A. Two more WoFcons out there, but I can’t see a word that gets both along with an E, so I’ll try another fairly common consonant
HEART → Excludes a lot, at least. Working on consonants now; central A could be the only vowel in the solution. I can get that last WoFcon too
GRANT → Well, that wasn’t it. I see a couple possibilities, both of which could come before beer, but which one to try?
CRAFT → Ahh, wrong one.
DRAFT
TATTY was Scoredle’s second guess, going full out for a placement. However, its guesses 3-5 were exactly the same as mine, so I’ve got that going for me. Of course, Scoredle’s second guess eliminated TRACT and TRAIT which could have pushed me to a six.

CHORE ok, probably a xAxER word. Lots of them, few already used let’s
WAGER that this is one of them. It is, but it’s a major trap! How about
WAFER yes! 2,4,6,8, time to transsubstantiate!

Lucky, lucky, lucky! Because this was a serious trap, and if there were any good sleuth words out there, I didn’t see them. So my only choice was to walk right into the trap and take my chances. And like I said, I got lucky. Real lucky.

I’d have gone with WAVER next, then WADER. And if WAKER or WAXER had been the solution (made as much sense as PARER did), I’d have taken the L.

DRAFT → Good start, despite the lack of placement. That F is useful. I can see another word with an E and an S, so
FARES → So now I gotta shuffle the F & R around. RAFE?, RA?EF, ?AFER, the last one screams out for
WAFER

I would have to rate this one as “tremendously lucky” for me. Having two words in a row with a pretty uncommon consonant is right in my “strategy’s” wheelhouse, though. Scoredle shows how much of a difference this made by winning in four from my start word but taking a bogey with its own usual start.

I’m working mine right now. I’ve used 3 guesses and there are very many(!) possible answers remaining. I could easily get an X/6 on this one. I have not revealed others’ spoilers but I do see how you’ve done thus far. Most were successful but one struck out (sorry, @psychobunny!).

I shall return with my result…

Added: wow this is going to be very hard. My first 3 guesses were my usual starting words:

Very tough trap!
Even with two good sleuth words, I still had a chance at a fail; WAVER, WAXER, and WADER were still on the table, two of which I hadn’t seen. So a little skill, a little luck, and still a bogey.

ETA: Working from ROUTE, Scordle stayed in hard mode and clocked a six. I can’t feel bad about my play.

I haven’t kept track, but I’m pretty sure that’s the first all-green puzzle that’s taken 5+ guesses for me.

That definitely put the “hard” in “hard mode” for me. I could’ve lost if the answer had been CRAMP or CRAZY; I’m not sure which one I would’ve picked for my last guess.

Unfortunately I missed yesterday, and setting the time zone on my phone to California didn’t work this time so my streak has ended. Terrible timing, too, since yesterday’s word looks like it was a fun challenge. My best guess at how yesterday would have gone for me:

I’m pretty certain I would have gotten a 5. On the one hand this means I dodged a 5 in my stats. On the other hand, at the cost of losing a 500+ active streak on my phone. Sort of like an NFL quarterback taking a sack instead of eating an incompletion on his stats.

Either way, too bad, so sad, c’est la vie.
