Had the devil of a time coming up with any words after 2. Saw MIDST first, but that had already been used. Then gave up and used Scoredle with MIDST as my bogus solution to find my last two guesses. Since those were the only two legit words still out there, a 4 was my max score regardless (so I don’t really feel like I cheated even by my own personal standards, which exclude online aids), but it saved me from a lot of wracking my brains today on the way to that 4.
JELLY → Whiff. Time for a good first guess second
ROAST → Hmm. And only U & I to go for vowels. I can’t think of many ??UST that are still out there (TRUST & JOUST are gone) but I can see one archaic word that I could use
WHIST → Aw, darn, should have doubled up
TWIST
MUIST is Scoredle’s recommendation for my third guess, a word I’m not sure I’ve ever heard before. Despite being an anagram of my second guess, Scoredle’s second guess allows it to finish with a birdie, since it places the first letter. Still, I feel better about this than about going the distance with JELLY yesterday.

Par is 4, birdie is 3. It’s a golf term adapted for here, I believe.
My preference would be to avoid golf terms. What’s wrong with with just saying, “I solved it in two/three/four/five guesses”?
