This one had me thinking for a while, as I wasn’t even sure if ETUDE was a word. Even looking it up, I was unsure if it was the right move. Whew.
Well, I would have posted my result today, but for some reason the wife (who is on the same NYT account) decided to try the Wordle. Now, she tried it a long time ago and didn’t like it because she didn’t understand how it worked. Well, she still doesn’t understand how it works, nor what the goal of it is. But she did manage to fuck up my 80 day run, so I’ll be starting over (again) tomorrow. ::head smack::

SMILE → Placed E, not bad, and some good eliminations. Couldn’t find a three-WoFcons-and-a-vowel word, so went with two and two vowels, which was probably better anyway
ORATE → Though it didn’t really turn out that way. I looked for Ns here but couldn’t find a good word, so eventually figured there might be a second E, and tried to place it
TEPEE → No placement, but there is one at least. I tried lots of bogus words with an E in the middle before I put it at the start, once I followed it with the T the excellent crossword word came to me

My followup wasn’t in the top 120 out of 580, but Scoredle gave me a 1/22 for the third guess, which left me with but one valid word left. Scoredle plays an elimination game, getting down to just two possibles with the original green and one other yellow letter on the board before it makes its 50-50 putt to cinch par.
