Does anyone even use this expression anymore? Even fifty years or so ago, AFAICT “Oh, pshaw!” wasn’t used by anyone besides little old ladies in small towns, and that generation of small-town little old ladies is now comfortably ensconced in rural cemeteries. I’d say it’s pretty much fallen out of the language.

It certainly wasn’t a word I was expecting. Fortunately my guess at 3 gave me the P and W, and with only 3 combinations for where the A and S could be to fit the P and W into, I tripped over it fairly quickly.

I’m curious about whether this was on Wardle’s original list of solutions, or whether this was a NYT add - there’ve been over three dozen of those so far, including LORIS and KEFIR. (But not OVATE, that’s from Wardle.)

This one baked my noodle a bit. I wasn’t even sure if PSHAW was a formal word or one that Wordle deems “unlikely”, but it was all that would fit.

Also, in the bot analysis, it said there was only 1 solution left after I guessed BASIN. ASWAY’s an unlikely word, but PSHAW’s not? Siiiiigh.

STEAK → Placed A, nice. Also at least one S, nice. I think we had ASSAY recently, so that’s not a target. I noodled around for a while and tried to find a word, bogus or not, with a good variety of letters, and landed on
HORAS → Now I’m confused. SH go together well… but right before the A??? or HS before the A? or SAH ending? I got nothin’. Slept on it, then tried to just start plugging letters in, starting with ?SHA?. Led with a vowel, then tried anything at the end. Wasn’t until I tried USHAW that I saw it

For a birdie, this was pretty frustrating. My followup was below the median (not in the first 120 of 239), but it gave me a tap-in for birdie, so rather lucky I guess? Scoredle also gets a birdie with a valid tap-in out of 2 possibles, so there’s just something about STEAL that makes this an “easy” puzzle (and not about SLATE, as Scoredle takes a bogey-five from that start).
