SHUNT → Whiff. Last two WoFcons, and I really need to find some vowels stat
RELAY → Can’t think of another electrical word here that would help. Hoped for ?ERIO to go somewhere, but no luck. Kinda randomly put in words and one hit
PEDRO → ?ERIR went nowhere and I went to bed. Got up, looked at the puzzle and got it in my head that there might be another E and figured I should try
EERIE → Which placed the R by elimination, and pretty much the E as well. Looking at remaining consonants, I had a coin flip left between FEWER and
FEVER
Scoredle also finishes in five, both from its own start and from mine. My third guess is a proper noun, so I’m a little surprised Wordle took it.

I made a huge tactical error by assuming O was the missing vowel. (I could have tried an O at three, but I liked the consonants in WACKY and didn’t think the vowel mattered at that point.) By the time I caught on to the double E, there was FEVER, DETER, REFER, DEFER, FREER, ETHER, and EDGER.
Failure was definitely an option.

FEVER → Oh, great. The mother of all traps.
PLIER → I made an error here. See below. Also, whiff.
SOBER → It’s getting late early.
WAGER → That’s a bet that didn’t pan out. Gotta be a U there, now.
CUTER → But incorrectly placed. N & D are still out there - I guess I’ll take one last stab and try them both.
UNDER
Upon review, I should have gone with OILER for the second guess, knocking out two vowels in one. Or, OATER, if that’s a Wordle word - I know it mostly from crosswords. I had the advantage of knowing there was not a second E, but I still didn’t get the correct vowel until the fifth guess. Scoredle goes the distance but makes it. It does a much better job at the trap than I did.

The U was nice, but I still smelled a trap. After confirming the -ER ending*, I decided to lay up for the par. (Though the worst I could have done was five, given that I remembered UPPER from just a few days ago.)
*Is it my imagination, or have there been a lot of -ER words lately? Getting kind of tired of those.
