BEAST, BOAST, COAST, and FEAST had already been used, leaving ROAST, TOAST, YEAST, and possibly AVAST. Pick one of those first two and go from there; picked the right one.

Good choice at two! BOAST COAST TOAST… Stay in hard mode or guarantee a four with a sleuth word?
I took my chances and got the four anyway.

BOAST - My first inclination was ‘toast’, but n-o-o-o-o.
TOAST
FALSE ->That’s a pretty good start, and it sets up a good first guess second. So
ROAST → Oh, great. I’m sure we’ve had one or two fills of this trap already, and yet I refuse to go with a used words list. Well, try 'em one by one
COAST → Nope.
BOAST → Not that either. What am I missing? Oh, right duplicate letter…
TOAST
One of the fastest and most frustrating fives I’ve registered in this game. Scoredle has a word with an H in there as well - seems pretty darn bogus to me. Scoredle also finishes in five, KOing the worst of the trap before it is sprung.

Scoredle also finishes in three, though with a different middle word. My word was a layup - only one possible on the third guess - but Scoredle had to get a little lucky, with three nonbogus possibles left after the second guess. Which I suppose means I got really lucky with my second guess!
