RUMBA → A not unexpected whiff. Good first guess second time
STOLE → Not much better. Is there an N? And try to place the T, of course - and can I cover the last two vowels? Yes
NIFTY → It looks somewhat trappish. The terminal -TY suggests a double T, so I’ll try that… W or D?
WITTY → Must have been D (I hope)
DITTY
Or K, of course, which I hadn’t seen. Scoredle shows one other non-bogus word that might fill the trap, but there’s no way the NYT will ever use that as a solution. On its own solve, Scoredle whiffs with its second guess but finishes with a par - reinforcing the adage that good eliminations are sometimes as important as good placed guesses.

NIFTY (Got my vowel. Try another WoFcon.)
DIRTY (Damn my aversion to double letters!)
DITTY (Just take the par, Michael.)
I’m not sure if you are American or not, but the singular of that word is not a nonsense word. It means callus.

I’m sometimes surprised when people here say such-and-such couldn’t be the answer because that was the solution to a past puzzle. I usually have trouble remembering yesterday’s answer, let alone some random one from months ago. But today was different. After my first two guesses, I could only think of four possible solutions (excluding one rude word I knew wouldn’t be the solution): KITTY, DITTY, WITTY and FIFTY. I recognized the last as a past answer, because it very annoyingly broke a long streak of correct solutions. That was nearly two years ago, but it still stings. My third guess today was just lucky.
There’s a list.
I’m aware. Other players can do as they choose, but personally I would feel as if I were cheating if I consulted the list while playing the puzzle. Now I’m curious. Do any folks here regularly consult it? I’m not judging if you do.
I call it nonsense because it’s a plural of corn and never going to be the Wordle of the day. I used it to flush out new letters. Like wordlebot does.
Nope not interested in the Wordle list. My game performance is not that important to me.
I don’t consult a list that’s out there on the Web somewhere, I’ve been keeping my own since nearly the beginning, back when there were sites that you could play all the previous Wordles on. So I’ve created my list by recording the answers to each game on a spreadsheet as I played them, and I also record how many guesses it took with each game I played, though I only started doing that in the mid-300s. For instance, Wordle 344 was BAYOU, and I got a 6 on that one, which made me feel blue. ![]()
ETA: Maybe it’s because of the way I do it, but I can hardly consider it cheating when my list represents the knowledge I’ve accumulated about the game over time. I’ve also used it to identify the frequency that each of the 26 letters has appeared in solutions, and in what position.
