BURST → Two unguessed WoFcons left, I need some vowels, and I can do both with
RENAL → So not much of a pickup. I really wanted to try some serious vowels here, and I tried one word not knowing if Wordle would take it
ROILY → and it did, despite the R where I knew it wasn’t placed. So now, only Ys in the puzzle, and there must be one more, and with the R in second the Y must be in the middle, so it looks like
DRYLY
WRYLY was also possible, so this was a 50-50 for par. I wasn’t in the top 120 with my followup, and then had an invalid pick for my next guess, so Scoredle isn’t really scoring my guesses today. Playing for itself, Scoredle also converts a 50-50 for par, with the other possible being a variant of the actual solution.

After my second guess I quickly found a solution and couldn’t believe it was wrong. After that I realised that I had eliminated two of the three uncertain letters in each of the three remaining positions.

STARE → No, it doesn’t gotta be that, because I already knew two of those letters weren’t there. Ugh! Stop shooting from the hip! OK, three places for R, for E, for S, for T, perhaps an -ER ending? TASER - no, the T can’t go first, but if was third…

Should have been a cinch 3, but I mucked it up. On the plus side, that bad guess did eliminate three (bogus) possibles from the set, leaving a 50-50 with one valid and one bogus for par. Scoredle has even worse luck, after its followup it falls into a trap and ends up with a bogey, even though I think its first guess in the trap is bogus. Bad morning for the algorithm.
I got a hole in one today, but it used up my starter word. I got a hole in one once before, a couple of years ago: “bleak” was the word back then.
Congrats on your ace! I’ve been using SLANT as my starting word for years now, had good luck with it, but it hasn’t yet been used as a solution. And with <500 unused solutions remaining from Wardle’s original list, I figure it’s at least got a decent likelihood of coming up sometime in the next year or so, even taking into account recycling of used solutions. So if you’re looking for a new starting word, I’m happy to share.
