SHONE → Not much to start on, but it does evoke a good second word first, with A and the last three WoFcons
LATER → Oh, heck, the killer trap. I see a whole lot of possibilities with P, so I’ll try one of them, along with… let’s say C, which has a few of its own
PACER → Ah, got the P. Now, G, P, R, V, Y, yeah, that’s a bad trap all right. We’ve already had PARER, I think, and not in the earliest solutions, so I’ll avoid the R, but right now I’ve got a 1/4 chance of a loss (at least!) Let’s see what I get when I try
PAPER → Nope. 1/3
PAYER → Uh, oh. Coin flip says V
PAVER
PAWER is also in Scoredle’s list, but that seems a bit bogus to me. (Love for them to use it tomorrow, though!) Scoredle dies in the trap just like me, though, if not worse - with no memory or power of discretion at all, it has five possibles to choose from on that sixth guess, so even worse than mine.

Opening whiff, good follow-up, and very lucky birdie guess.
I saw quite a few words with P and G in them, and figured PAGER would be a good bet to luck into a par in a tough trap. It was actually 14th out of 50, and at least half of those 50 were legit possible answers. So yeah, very lucky.
