Work troubles

I’ve had my job for a short amount of time - about six months now, and things are going downhill really fast. Lately I’ve been written up for a LOT of things. The problem is, others that I work with, including the manager that is writing me up, are doing the same things that I’m being written up for, if not worse.

Are there any laws in place to protect me? I do have documentation to back me up on some of these things - for example attendance logs showing others (including my manager) with many more infractions than me.

This is a terrible situation. What do I do?

When you’re at the bottom of the pile, you need to be perfect. People more senior are sometimes given more leeway because they started out perfect. You, on the other hand, are an unknown quantity and need to prove yourself. It will never matter how badly people above you behave; in the scheme of things the one at the bottom of the heap is the one who loses any such battle.

Usually when you have that creeping feeling you’re in trouble, you are. I’d work hard at finding another job fast.

Actually, it’s a new location for this business and we are all new on the job. No one has much more seniority than me with the exception of the manager. She came from another location within the company. I’ve never asked but I think she’s a new manager, having been promotd to this position with the opening of our location.

Doesn’t matter. If they’re picking on you over every little thing, it’s because they are building a case to get rid of you. Find another job and in the next one, be perfect.
