Has anyone here ever done this? Any recommendations on good websites? Everything I find requires payment before handing over the information that counts. Is there any way to get in touch with cruiseliner employment offices directly or does it have to be through agencies and middlemen?
You can pay the middlemen and make the task easier - AFAIK, they just take your information and money, then fax your application out to the cruise lines. It’s really nothing you can’t do for free.
Or, you can do a little mousework and poke around the lines’ websites, looking for Careers or Jobs - You’ll need to look in the small print links at the bottom of the page, on their site map, or in the “About Us” sections.
For Holland America, as an example, their Jobs page is off the About page, and they list positions on Careerbuilder.com.
For NCL, hit the “Join our Team” link at the bottom of their main page.
Celebrity has their Careers page off the About page, and is easier to find just by going to the site map.
And so on…
Why do you want to? I hope you don’t have romantic notions about it. We know a kid who was in the cast of a show on a cruiseliner, and went with her mother. It wasn’t a lot of fun, and I suspect they had it pretty good compared to most.
A few earlier threads:
Here’s an earlier thread about [thread=401861]packing for a job on a cruise ship,[/thread] from December 2006 and January 2007. The thread includes some discussion of what cruise ship jobs are like, e.g., long hours. FWIW, the user who started the thread (Carlyjay) has posted as recently as February 2008. Paging Carlyjay - how was the cruise worker experience?
Thanks for the links!
