So I’m not sure if this was a horrible or a delightful thought but last night as I was drifting off to sleep it occured to me that our lottery/gambling addicted Shredder Guy lives in Arizona. Where one of the winning lottery tickets was purchased.
Am I going to hell for immediately following that with "Oh good now that flatlined is leaving the media will take over for her.
Have you tried pointing out to the boss that this puts the company at HUGE risk of a lawsuit if the bad brakes cause an accident? And the boss, personally, since s/he ordered you to drive it despite your concerns?
It sounds like it’s low on brake fluid, which explains the leak. It’s not safe at all. It may not stop next time you hit the brakes. OSHA might be interested but it may take days or weeks for them to show up. And they don’t usually inspect vehicles beyond checking that maintenance records are being kept, if that. If they show up asking about that truck, your boss will know it was you and you can kiss your job goodbye.
You could rear end the next Porsche, Jaguar or Corvette you get behind at a red light.
Or Fiesta or Prius or Chevette. What difference does it make if she rear ends an expensive car or normal car? It’s not safe either way and can still lead to lawsuits and whatnot.
Do you remember when I said that I wanted you to pick up the slack with work rants? I really didn’t mean for you to suffer for our entertainment like this.
Believe it or not, I do hold some stuff back. Can’t believe I forgot to post this one last night… We may not make payroll next time. We barely made it for this pay period. The office manager was freaking out yesterday, I don’t think she meant for me to overhear.
We don’t have any sales coming in, but the bills still need to go out. I guess the company used to have two salespeople, but the boss fired them a couple years ago saying he could handle the sales himself. We’re seeing now how well that’s working out.
You can’t treat people like crap then expect them to want to buy from you. Seems pretty simple, no?
I can tell you one thing for sure, if our paychecks bounce everyone will hit the road. I can’t imagine anyone would stay in that situation, especially with everything else that’s going on.
Yeah, Dr. G., please tell us you’ve got multiple friends saying “Don’t worry, you can work with me the Monday after you quit.” And you’re just hanging in there for the literary fodder. And our entertainment needs, of course.
I wish… What I have is my co-workers saying “When you find something else take me with you!” Some of them are actively looking as well, but some of them are just bored early retirees who want to get out of the house. I have the friend at the employment agency but so far he’s been kind of useless.
flatlined, there’s about 20 people total with the company, not counting the boss. Some of them have managed to put up with this mess for 20 years! They’re mostly the bored retirees.
I’m starting to get that sick “Sunday afternoon and I have to go back to work tomorrow” feeling again.
I would surely hope so - I can’t think of a better reason for quitting than not being able to rely on getting paid.
I’m sorry to hear that. I completely understand it - I sure hope you can find something better (it sounds like it would be difficult to find something worse).
Of course we all know that the boss’s paycheck won’t bounce, but 20 people showing up at the Unemployment Office because their paychecks bounced will make someone pay attention.
Of course, that means that 20 people won’t be able to pay their rent, and while they will get their claims processed, they won’t get the money in time. This blows big chunks.
I’m so sorry this is happening.
I know the feeling of going to bed and not being able to sleep because you will have to wake up and go to work and get screamed at.
Cat Whisperer is right, it sounds like it would be hard to get a worse job. You really do have my sympathy.
This is minor, but judging by what’s been going on above this post, minor would be a welcome relief.
Punjab in Tech “Support” has pulled off another amazing trick. Now I can’t ctrl-click a website address in Word and have a browser window open up. It’s been “cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.” Yeah, because the newspaper ordering site that I use five days a week is such a risk to the company. The newspaper ordering site that I am required to use by the company.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I do have the site saved in favorites, but it’s still a minor irk. It’s messing up my routine!
Okay, the minor rant just became a bit more major.
Hey Punjab! Do you know what disabling ctrl-click on Office means? It means, and I need you to follow me closely on this, help won’t work anymore. I’m trying to find out how to print 3x5 cards in Office 07. I do a search for it in Help. Guess what? I can’t open any of the links because you’ve disabled such a thing! I have to open up a browser window and copy and paste the link title into Google to find the answer to my question!
I am now waiting to see when they take away our ability to copy and paste. This is why you don’t outsource your tech support, people!
Yes, yes, I know I could just Google the question in the first place, but in some cases I prefer Office help because it’s just easier to not have to open another browser window. Or it used to be.
Much as I support your rant against inane limitations to your computing abilities I don’t think you can blame it on outsourcing. They tend to do the minimum the contract requires in order to maintain profitability so it’s likely that the culprit is someone adding a new requirement to their contract. In my experience new requirements like this are added due to scenarios like:
Dumb exec clicks on a link in an email and infects half the network
DE: This shouldn’t have happened, make it so it can’t happen again.
Outsourcer: Well since killing all the dumb execs is bad business, we’ll just disable the links.
I would laugh at your hyperbole, except, well, it could actually happen. I think Moonlitherial has pretty much nailed the reason for this happening.
My temp assignment is due to wind up on December 21st - my gripe this time is that I don’t want this one to end. Nice people, okay duties, good hours, good pay - waah. I could keep going back there as a temp indefinitely.
